My name is Gary Knapp.

I have been a woodworker as an avocation for many years.

My debut was at ArtFair in Boulder, Colorado in 2005.

Since that successful debut I have placed my work in a
number of stores and done a number of shows.  I now
advertising in national publications including "American
Bungalow", "Old House Interiors", and "Arts and Craft Homes".

My passion is the Arts & Crafts style -- design style and life style.   I have attended many of the outstanding Arts & Crafts Conferences (Pasadena, Denver, Anaheim, Durango, and Asheville.) and been inspired by the artistic energy that pervades these events.   I use traditional Craftsman motifs and expand them in more contemporary directions using multiple woods and other textures including natural stone, fired A&C tiles, or brass.

My work is able to "crossover" between traditional Arts & Crafts and Contemporary Fine Crafts.  My clocks fit in both Contemporary fine crafts stores/galleries such as the Boulder Arts and Crafts Cooperative, Show of Hands in Cherry Creek, and Grovewood Gallery in Asheville or traditional arts & crafts home decor stores like Modern Bungalow in Denver, Homefitters in Missoula, or Bograd's Fine Furniture in New Jersey.

My emphasis is on building "Fine Functional Furniture".  In this case, it is furniture that happens to tell time.  This furniture fits well in a wide variety of decors -- obviously A&C -- but also rustic, "Western", and any other decor which emphasizes hand made crafts and natural surroundings.

I've had the privilege of being juried into many of the top fine craft shows around the country including The Cherry Creek (Denver) Arts Festival, the Sausalito (California) Arts Festival, and many of the shows managed by the American Crafts Council.

I live in Stevensville in the Bitterroot Valley of Western Montana.  Stevensville is a small town of 1500.  We have a very active arts community and an active arts group -- the Stevensville Art and Sculpture Society (www.sassart.org).  SASS's mission is to promote art through education, murals, shows, public art, and community sculpture projects.  Our flagship event is the annual Stevensville Scarecrow Festival which is a public art/sculpture project the first week of October. I'm on the board of the Stevensville Main Strreet Association.  Click here to check out Stevensville. You can also see us on the webcam of the Bitterroot River B&B -- click here.

Upon moving here in 2005 I got to build a brand new shop which is now the home of Cats Eye Craftsman.
